KiwiSaver Budget Measures Bill (Consistent) [2015] NZBORARp 20 (8 May 2015)

Last Updated: 17 January 2019

KiwiSaver Budget Measures Bill

8 May 2015

Hon Christopher Finlayson QC, Attorney-General

Consistency with the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990: KiwiSaver Budget Measures Bill

1. We have considered whether the KiwiSaver Budget Measures Bill (‘the Bill’) is consistent with the rights and freedoms affirmed in the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990 (‘the Bill of Rights Act’).

2. The Bill amends the KiwiSaver Act 2006 to remove the Government’s $1,000 KiwiSaver kick- start contribution for all those who become a KiwiSaver member after 2pm on 21 May

2015. It also makes two minor consequential changes to the KiwiSaver Act 2006.

3. We have concluded that the Bill appears to be consistent with the rights and freedoms affirmed in the Bill of Rights Act.
